FENG SHUI the MODERN Way

Contrary to popular misconceptions, Feng Shui is not about hiring someone to perform some ancient Chinese Voo Doo or expensive superstitious ritual on your living space. Simply put, it is the study of your environment and how it affects you. The goal of Feng Shui is to help you find more peace, balance and feelings of contentment in your life by creating spaces that invoke beauty and relaxation.

Fortunately, if you are a lover of Modern furniture and Contemporary interior design, you probably already have an innate sense for what makes for a positive energy flow. Because Modern style in its purity is all about minimalism and clean lines, already your surroundings tend to be "light" in nature. Minimalism does not co-exist well with clutter, so each piece you place in your room is purposely placed to make a statement, both visually and functionally.

You don't have to go full-out Feng Shui - as in designing with knowledge of meridians, Pa Kua and proper use of the elements - to benefit from the principles. For example, when you place your sofa in your room, take note of the leg space around you, as well as what is visually available from that vantage point. With wide open breathing space in mind, take a seat and get in touch with what you feel. If something doesn't feel right, try a different angle and revisit your mood. Follow the same protocol in your bedroom and dining room.

Since the kitchen is often used as a gathering place for family and friends, once again, roominess and maneuverability are important when designing your space. Your kitchen is also a great space to play with color. What you hang on your walls and choose for artistic accessories - can make the difference between a gourmet dinner from a happy cook or an uninspired microwave offering.

Most everyone loves flowers in the kitchen, but having them freshly cut and beautifully displayed is not always possible. Modern Digs has the next best thing - a unique collection of floral artwork that will enhance any Contemporary kitchen decor. Organic Glow, for example, is a high definition photography piece that is so vibrant and provocative, you will want to stop, smell the fragrance and pull out your favorite gourmet recipe book!

So whether you Feng Shui or "Faux" Shui, the result should be a happier, more joyful "you" in each and every room.
